Are you reading the temperature with nearly 30 year old guages? How do you know the guage is accurate, or maybe full of spider webs? What is the accuracy of the guage ? 5% or 10%. 10 % may mean your engine is at 140 even though the guage shows 125. What is the wiring like between the guage and the sender ? Any poor connections?
What if you wiggle some wirea and the guage reads 145 ? Does that mean the engine is overheating by 5 degrees?
Unless you have some good suspicions that there is really something wrong with the engine temperature, it sounds like there is little to worry about.
