Vetus mufflers are OK for diesel engines but for gas you should use something stronger like a fiberglass Vernay or metal waterlift.
The problem with a Vetus is that they are not rated for the loads of a backfire and could burst, leaving you without power, or worse.
It is an unlikely event, but check with a marine surveyor familiar with this issue.
