Open the band adjust access plate (4 bolts)

1) Check to ensure the spring-clip retained nut is not so tight that you can't get out of forward.

2) Next make sure the curved bars (3) are firmly on the thrust ring. If not, you're in gear for a non-linkage related reason which will require pulling the gear cluster off & reinstalling.

3) MOST likely is that the horizontal linkage bar got you into gear, but the vertical bar to get back out isn't on properly. It's misleading when the adjust nut clamps down on the bar, it can look good, but not be fully on its "pin" as the book calls the bar that the linkage pulls on.

I would back that adj. nut fully off (remove the retaining clip&nut first-its brittle) and get that verticle bar well seated on the pin and HOLD it while reassembling the adj. nut.

Else, a teardown to check the idler pinions in the gear cluster may be warranted.

Good Luck!! And congradulation on the successful rebuild!
